Record #114: Danielson – Tri-Danielson, Vol. 2: Omega (1998)

Part two of Danielson’s ambitious Tri-Danielson project, Omega is slightly less accessible than Alpha, with a denser track listing and fewer standouts. But to be fair, the entire project is hard to understand.

The Tri in Tri-Danielson correlates to the three incarnations of Daniel Smith’s project. Namely, Brother Danielson (solo Daniel), Danielson Famile (Daniel and his family), and apparently, Danielsonship (Daniel and his friends). They alternate every three tracks, which adds to the already eclectic nature of the album. It might be more noticeable here than on Alpha, or it might seem so because I’ve noticed it. But regardless, as they’re each halves of a whole, you don’t really understand Alpha without Omega, and vice versa. It’s a sophisticated concept double album, the way that a guy who dressed like a tree at his concerts does sophisticated.
