Record #120: David Bowie – ChangesOneBowie (1976)

This is the first Bowie record I ever owned, and it’s a wonderful introduction to the pop culture maestro’s catalog. It spends most of its time with his glam rock pioneering Ziggy Stardust era, which is nice, since I don’t have any of those records (The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Aladdin Sane, and Diamond Dogs).

What it does better than anything is showcase Bowie’s mastery of genre jumps and stylistic experimentation. Unfortunately though, given as I got this from a friend’s yard sale and prior to that, it sat in a milk crate in a garage for decades, my copy is rife with surface noise and skips, which makes it a frustrating listen.
