The legend’s fifth album, Honkey Château sees Elton John moving away from his soft rock singer songwriter phase that brought us songs like Tiny Dancer and Your Song and towards the high glam rock of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Sir Elton’s trademark piano pound is in full force, often diverting into a ragtime redux. Your Song’s country slide guitars are gone, and in there place are distorted slams and angular lead lines. The shape of glam rock to come is most clearly shown in the Bowie-esque ballad Rocket Man, which for good reason remains one of Sir Elton’s most famous tracks.
